Enabling people to be their best

“Thank you for today, it was so helpful having lots of support in one room.”

Accrington Stanley Community Trust is a registered charity that supports local people across Hyndburn and the wider East Lancashire area through sport, education, health and community projects. The Trust will be using a grant from the Onward Community Fund to enhance its social inclusion programme for over 50s at the Stanley Sports Hub. This will include extending its warm hub hours, and offering free refreshments, wellbeing activities and support services to help older residents in the area stay connected, nourished and supported through the colder months.

Creating places people are proud of
Our customers and colleagues recently came together with Lancashire County Council and Kokoro Tree Contracting to plant 1,500 new trees in an unused space in Clayton-le-Moors. The new woodland will create new habitats for wildlife and make our neighbourhoods greener.
Over in Clayton-le-Moors, we’re also supporting Hyndburn Leisure’s Keep It Clean volunteering sessions, where Onward colleagues, students from Accrington and Rossendale College and community volunteers come together each month to litter pick and tidy spaces across the neighbourhood.
We run an annual competition to celebrate customers who make their gardens special and help bring the community together. This year, the customers at Merlin Court, our Older Persons scheme in Oswaldtwistle, won the Bee Friendly award for the beautiful arrangements created in their communal garden for everyone, including the bees, to enjoy. Well done to everyone at Merlin Court!
During antisocial behaviour week, we delivered a series of series of impact days and walkabouts across Lancashire with local police forces and teams across Onward to raise awareness.
