New affordable homes completed in Toxteth

Work is completed on a new development on Kingsley Road, Liverpool

Onward has welcomed the first residents to its new £800,000 housing scheme in Toxteth, Liverpool, after work was completed last month.

The six terraced houses were officially handed over to Onward by Liverpool-based contractor Hampton Developments North West Ltd. in September.

Situated on Kingsley Road, all six of the two-bedroom homes for affordable rent have already been snapped up.

Peter Rooney, project manager at Onward, said: “These new homes will provide much-need affordable housing in the area and help stimulate the ongoing development of a sustainable and vibrant community.

“We’ve taken great care to ensure that the elevation design within these properties is in keeping with the neighbouring St Bernard’s Church.”

Meanwhile, work is already underway to convert the nearby church into 16 affordable homes for shared ownership.

Onward is working in partnership with award-winning charity Housing People, Building Communities (HPBC) to create 11 three-storey townhouses within the shell of the former St. Bernard’s Catholic church, which dates back to 1901.

A three-bedroom detached house and four two-bedroom ‘cottage style’ apartments, each with its own external front door, is also being built on the former parish hall site adjacent to the church.

The development is due to be completed in autumn 2019.
