Bonfire Night can be a lovely time to come together, but homemade bonfires can quickly become unsafe. They can create heavy smoke, damage green spaces or nearby homes and put extra pressure on emergency services.
To help keep everyone safe, please don’t build or light bonfires in your neighbourhood.
What should I do if I spot a bonfire?
If you see a bonfire being built in your neighbourhood, please report it to us as soon as possible by calling 0300 555 0600. Please let us know the location of the bonfire, and any details that may help us identify who is responsible.
Any reports can be made confidentially. The sooner we know about it, the sooner we can take action to keep the area safe.
If there is an immediate risk to life, property or safety, please call 999.
What will Onward do?
We will be visiting your neighbourhood regularly and any bonfires found on our land will be removed.
If we can identify the people responsible, we may take enforcement action and recharge the cost of removing the bonfire to them. If we cannot find who is responsible, the cost of removing the bonfire will be shared by everyone in the area through service charges.
Where can I celebrate Bonfire Night?
The safest way to enjoy Bonfire Night is to attend an organised event. Your local council may be hosting a free event, so head to their website to find an official celebration near you.
