Affordable Homes Boost in Runcorn

Bridgewater development in Castlefields, Runcorn

A new affordable housing development has been completed in Runcorn by Onward.

Delighted residents and their families have already begun moving into the Bridgewater development in Castlefields.

The £2.7m scheme has been built on the site of the former Bridgewater Day Centre, which has been converted into 20 new homes for low cost rent and affordable shared ownership.

The development, which sits alongside the Leeds/Liverpool canal, consists of ten two-bedroom flats for affordable rent and ten three-bedroom homes for shared ownership, giving local people the opportunity to take a 50 per cent share in a home for just £70,500.

Nine out of ten of the homes for shared ownership have already been reserved, with just one plot remaining, while the homes for rent have all been provisionally accepted.

Bronwen Rapley, chief executive of Onward, said: “We are delighted to have completed this significant development to deliver much-needed, high quality affordable housing in Runcorn.

“Onward is committed to delivering up to 1,600 new homes across the North West over the next five years, and this development is one of many that will enable local people to access affordable homes.”

Work on the Bridgewater development got underway in December 2016. The remaining plot is available to buy through Help to Buy North West.
