May Logan Centre awarded £162,900 National Lottery grant to launch major new health and wellbeing project

The May Logan Centre, a healthy living hub in the heart of Bootle, has been awarded £162,900 from the National Lottery Community Fund to launch a new programme to support pregnant women, new parents, and babies in the community.

Each year, hundreds of pregnant women and new parents attend the May Logan Centre to access health services or visit its community café and play area. The funding will enable the Centre which is managed by leading North West housing association Onward Homes, to develop May Logan Hub 1000, a dedicated space providing vital health and wellbeing services during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, from conception to age two.

May Logan Hub 1000 will host a wide range of activities designed to improve health, strengthen social connections, and reduce isolation among expectant and new parents during a formative period which has been widely recognised as critical in shaping lifelong health, wellbeing, and life chances.

The funding will also enable the Centre to remove cost barriers for participants, with all activities delivered free of charge, ensuring the programme is accessible to those on low incomes. The project will also draw on new and existing partnerships, including Liverpool Women’s Hospital and Merseycare, to bring specialist services directly into the community.

Emma Wilson, Interim Executive Director of Operations at Onward Homes, said:

“The May Logan Centre has been a cornerstone of community health in South Sefton for over 25 years, delivering its own healthy living projects and hosting NHS clinics for respiratory, antenatal, diabetes prevention, menopause, and mental health services.”

“Building on this legacy, we’re thrilled to be creating a safe, welcoming space dedicated to improving health and social connections that will enable pregnant women and new parents to come together, strengthen their support networks, and help each other to thrive at this crucial time in their family life.”

Nicola Mills, Community Midwife Team Leader at the NHS, said:

“We are delighted that the May Logan Centre has been awarded National Lottery funding for this project. The centre holds a unique and valued place within the community, offering service users access to a wide range of support services all under one roof.”

“This funding will make a real difference, and the new project will give pregnant women and families even more support at a time when they need it most. We know it will have a truly positive impact locally. We’ve always had a strong and supportive partnership with the May Logan Centre, and we’re really looking forward to continuing that work as we begin referring families into the programme.”

The May Logan Hub 1000 project will run for an initial three‑year period, starting later in 2026 and fully funded by the National Lottery Community Fund grant.
