12 new affordable homes coming to Murdishaw

Onward Homes will build 12 new apartments on the former site of the Murdishaw Methodist Church, just off the Ridgeway in Murdishaw, following approval of its proposals from the local planning authority.

Halton Borough Council unanimously voted through Onward’s planning application at its latest Development Management Committee meeting on Tuesday 5th March, after receiving a recommendation to approve the plans from Council officers last week.

Following a public consultation with local residents and businesses in September 2023, a planning application was submitted to Halton Borough Council later in the Autumn. With consent now in place, Onward will begin the process of appointing a contractor, with a view to commencing work on site towards the end of 2024.

Onward has worked closely with Halton Council on its proposals to ensure the right mix of homes, comprising one- and two-bedroom options. All 12 homes, contained within one three-storey apartment block, will be available through Rent-to-Buy, with residents paying a reduced rental rate (around 80% of market rent) while they save for a deposit.

Funding for these latest new homes is being delivered through Onward’s Strategic Partnership with Homes England, which will enable the housing association to build 5,000 new homes by 2030.

Stephen Heverin, Growth & Regeneration Director at Onward Homes, said: “We are pleased with the decision from Halton Borough Council and now look forward to bringing this disused site back into use for the local community.

“Our proposals for the Ridgeway reflect our ongoing commitment to improve the quality and choice of affordable housing in Murdishaw; both through investing in the homes we already manage and by creating new, modern homes that meet local demand.

“These latest new homes will help make the dream of home ownership an affordable reality for local people, through our popular Rent-to-Buy tenure.”
