Runcorn organisations come together to support the local community with the cost of living

Organisations in Runcorn are coming together to host several events to offer local residents’ practical guidance around the cost of living.

The events will link Runcorn residents who are struggling with the cost of living to a wealth of support services and organisations who can help across a whole range of areas including finances, debt, housing, food, employment and mental health and wellbeing.

The Community Shop in Runcorn will host the events from the 7th to the 10th of November supported by North West based housing associations Onward Homes and Riverside. Community groups and service providers such as Citizens Advice, Job Centre Plus, the Green Doctor, Mind, Cheshire Police, and the Fire Service will also be on hand to provide information and support.

Along with signposting support services, across the four days events will be hosted with a focus on how to prepare healthy meals, financial advice and guidance, wellbeing sessions and how to keep warm this Winter. There will also be an opportunity for social housing tenants to meet their respective landlord to discuss repairs and neighbourhood plans.

Joanne Danaher, Director for Housing and Homeownership for Onward, said:

As the cost-of-living rises, we expect that some of our customers will need extra support over Winter. The events being held at Community Shop will help our customers by providing some practical support and guidance during these difficult times.

We know just how important it is to hold these events across our neighbourhoods, making sure every resident has an equal chance to get support and advice from local partners.

This event will signpost the services available to our residents across Runcorn, so if you, or someone you know is struggling, please come along and talk to the team. We are here to help.

Vanessa Shaw, Community Resilience Officer for Merseyside for Riverside, said:

We are really pleased to be involved in such an important event. Organisations working together to support all customers during such challenging times is important. Riverside will have a presence at the event to be on hand to promote a range of additional services to support customers who may need extra help with the cost-of-living.

Joanne McGrath, Impact Manager for Community Shop, said:

Here at Community Shop Halton, we are proud to be involved and hosting such an important event for the members of our community. As the cost-of-living rises, we have seen a huge number of new referrals and this event will hopefully provide the advice and support they need to help our members through the coming months. We are providing free food across the 4 days and a chance to win a Winter Warmer hamper.
