When can I expect my home to be upgraded?
All housing associations need to meet national guidance set by the government (Decent Homes Standard), when it comes to updating the main components in their home.
When it first published its guidance, the government defined a Decent Home as:
- Meeting the minimum safety standards for housing
- Being in a reasonable state of repair
- Having reasonably modern facilities and services
- Sufficient thermal comfort
Wherever possible, Onward aims to not only meet the government’s targets, but to go further. When the original Decent Homes Standard defined a ‘modern bathroom’ as being less than 30 years old, Onward set targets to replace kitchens every 20 years.
The government will soon publish ‘Decent Homes 2’, its latest set of targets for maintaining the quality of housing association homes.
