About International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. As the United Nations informed us that the COVID pandemic is poised to widen the existing gender disparities, IWD marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality. This year, the theme is #ChooseToChallenge.

Marked each year on March 8th, IWD aims to:

  • celebrate women’s achievements
  • raise awareness about women’s equality
  • lobby for accelerated gender parity
  • fundraise for female-focused charities

About the event
Join a panel of experts as they explore the impact of the COVID pandemic on gender inequality by taking a closer look at those who are most at risk when there is nowhere to go but your own home.

After more than a year of living with COVID, the panellists will discuss the ways in which gender and racial inequalities in healthcare, at home, and at work are being exacerbated. They will also reflect on what it might mean to ‘build back better’.

Speakers include:

Felicia Willow – Interim Chief Executive of the Fawcett Society, the UK’s leading membership charity campaigning for gender equality and women’s rights.

Sarah Hill – CEO of Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS), Yorkshire’s largest specialist charity supporting people experiencing, or affected by, domestic abuse or sexual violence.

Dr Ernestine Gheyoh Ndzi – Senior Lecturer in Law at York St John University.

Dr Esther McIntosh – held a lectureship in Religion, Gender and Ethics at the University of Leeds until 2008, before joining York St John University.
